The Universe As a Virtual Reality and the Double Slit Experiment Paradox

▲ ▲ ▲

I think, therefore I am? -or- I'm programmed, therefore I am?

The Universe As a Virtual Reality and the Double Slit Experiment Paradox

From Newton's mechanical universe to the Einstein revolution and the beginning of quantum physics, the search for base reality is always over the horizon. Is this horizon receding before our eyes? From quantum physics came the standard model, which now explains a grand total of 4% - 5% (depending on who's counting) of the known Universe! A huge chunk of the Universe is missing: dark matter (23%) and dark energy (73%).

Michio Kaku believes String Theory is the only game in town. When (if?) the Higgs Boson is discovered at CERN, String Theory is the only viable avenue to expand the research because it's the only testable theory. He's right. The problem is String Theory kicks the can down the road, adds unnecessary layers of complexity, and therefore is an Ockham's Razor nightmare.

Wave-particle duality, probability wave collapse, non-locality, and yet other anomalies, have yet to be explained without theoretical convolution. Among these anomalies, the results of the Double Slit Experiment and the enhanced Delayed Choice Quantum Eraser Experiment cannot be crammed into the so-called theoretical box and remain mysteries. The video below provides an excellent description and primer of these experiments and the baffling results.

There is an alternative explanation, which is heretical to the traditional human worldviews of the atheists and evolutionists as well as the other end of the spectrum, the religious faithful and creationists. In fact, it's possible these opposing camps could both be partially correct as they battle each other! That is, the Universe is a virtual reality, programmed and created and processing. The Simulation Hypothesis asserts this.

What is striking about the Universe as a virtual reality is how all of humankind's philosophical and scientific questions through the centuries are answered simply and forthrightly. In an odd way, the Simulation Hypothesis really is the Game of Life, although creating a certain uneasiness once the implications are pondered and delved into. What we are taught and learn to perceive that the world, the Universe, is an objective reality of matter still mechanistically functioning at the macro level like Newtonian physics, begins to disappear before our eyes and in our mind. Welcome to the edge of reality! Now on to our show, the video below, and the brave new world of the Universe as a virtual reality...

Quantum Physics 101 - Double Slit Experiment (Revised version from March 4th 2012) This video starts out explaining the basics regarding the double slit experiment, then it goes into detail regarding the setup and results of the delayed choice quantum eraser experiment with its rather strange results. The measurement data of this experiment implies that information obviously travelled backwards in time, which violates known scientific principles regarding causality and time. Finally it provides an explanation for these strange results based on the My Big Toe model of physicist Thomas Campbell who claims that we are living in a virtual reality and that reality as we know it is based on information and created from this information as any other virtual reality simulation on a computer. Most of the content presented in this video is also available in written form here.

Thomas Campbell: The Nature of Reality His key insight is that we live in a virtual reality based on consciousness. Consciousness is the foundation of our reality and the main method for consciousness to evolve is by breaking up the holistic consciousness into separated individual part (us humans) which then have free will to interact.

String Theory the Only Game in Town? Michio Kaku Thinks So!

▲ ▲ ▲

Reality Theory

Michio Kaku talks about the search for the Higgs Boson at CERN, the so-called and hyped "God Particle", in the video below. Kaku says the search has been reduced, with 95% certainty, to a narrow range of the mass spectrum in the CERN large hadron collider. What are the implications of finding the Higgs boson? The discovery, perhaps in 2012, would complete the standard model of physics. If the Higgs boson does not exist, then a revamp of the standard model could be necessary.

The Standard Model: A Theory Only a Mother Could Love Michio Kaku calls the standard model a "ragtag bunch of subatomic particles" and there must be a "higher theory". This higher theory must include gravity, which is missing in the standard model. The standard model describes only 4% of the matter and energy content of the Universe! A huge chunk of the Universe is missing: dark matter (23%) and dark energy (73%).

String Theory is the Answer Kaku believes String Theory is the only current possibility to be a true Theory of Everything, incorporating the Standard Model. dark matter, and dark energy. The next step, after presumably finding the Higgs boson, would be to find dark matter at the CERN large hadron collider. Kaku notes that would go a long way in proving or disproving String Theory.

Simulation Argument On this website, I have explored that the only logical explanation of physics and ultimately the Universe is the simulation argument, that the Universe is a virtual reality, a programmed reality. Obviously the Standard Model is inadequate and I argue, along with many others, that String Theory essentially kicks the can down the road, explaining nothing. However, Michio Kaku is correct, currently String Theory is the only testable theory with any promise, at this stage in our testing capabilities. Hence that is where the testing will focus, until technology and future discoveries alter the path. As Werner Heisenberg said, "What we observe is not nature itself, but nature exposed to our method of questioning".

CERN: Large Hadron Collider Update

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world's largest particle accelerator, is currently shut down for annual maintenance. In February CERN will decide whether to run the LHC at a total energy of 8 TeV this year, instead of 7 TeV as in 2011. Higher energy should increase the chances of finding heavy particles. By early March, all the magnets around the 27-kilometre accelerator will have been cooled down to their operating temperatures of -271.3°C, ready to guide beams of particles through the LHC.

The LHC will resume colliding protons in late March. The goal is to deliver about 1600 trillion proton-proton collisions (16 "inverse femtobarns" of data) to the experiments, compared to the 500 trillion collisions delivered in 2011. More collisions will help the LHC experiments to improve the precision of their measurements and push searches for new physics further.

Michio Kaku: String Theory Is The Only Game In Town Dr. Kaku addresses the question of whether the so-called Higgs-Boson, or God particle has been overhyped, and what its discovery would mean for physics.

Michio Kaku on the Search for Earth's Twin: The Holy Grail of Planetary Astronomy

▲ ▲ ▲

Kepler-22 System

The Holy Grail of Planetary Astronomy As noted in a prior post, not only are planets numerous, there are more planets than stars in the Milky Way and presumably in other galaxies. NASA’s Kepler mission has discovered the first Earth-size planets orbiting a sun-like star outside our solar system. Previously Gliese 581g was discovered as a potential earth-like planet in the habitable zone.

Michio Kaku on The Holy Grail of Planetary Astronomy: The Search for Earth's Twin Dr. Kaku addresses the following question: A recently discovered planet named Kepler 22b apparently has a very, very similar composition to Earth, although I don't think they have it exactly figured out yet. What do discoveries like this mean and what is the possibility of many other earth-like planets being out there?

Living in a Post-Human World (Video) Michio Kaku: "We will become the gods that we once feared"

▲▲▲

Will transbiological humans be like the gods of mythology?

The Future of Humanity Michio Kaku asserts that humans have not changed, but are the same as the cavemen of 100,000 year ago. The basic personality is the same. The difference is the technology modern humans have developed. The post-human world will be similar socially and culturally. Further, through technology, "we will become the gods we once feared", having their abilities and powers. The capabilities of Zeus, Athena, and Apollo will become reality in a post-human world. Even new animals will be created, such as Pegasus, and extinct animals will be resurrected, such as dinosaurs. While our ancestors would be in awe of our current technology, our descendants would be seen by us as gods.

Living in a Post-Human World Big Think reader Liam Stein asks Dr. Michio Kaku the question "How will the world look post-singularity? Can you walk us through a day in the life of a transhuman?" Michio Kaku: At some point in the future we will have robots as smart as us. Why not enhance ourselves?Fundamentally we are the same cavemen and cavewomen of 100,000 years ago that emerged from Africa, except we have all the gizmos and gadgets of today, but our basic personality hasn’t changed so much. People will still want to look acceptable to their peers, acceptable to members of the opposite sex and so living in a post human world is not going to be that much different than living in the human world except we’ll have perfect bodies, except we’ll be ageless. We will become the gods that we once feared. We will like Zeus mentally control objects around us. Like Venus we will have perfect bodies and ageless bodies. Like Apollo we will have carriages that make us fly effortlessly in the sky with no energy from the outside and like Pegasus we’ll have animals that have never walked the surface of the earth or ceased walking the surface of the earth tens of thousands of years ago. In other words, if we today were to meet our grandparents of 1900 they would view us with our rockets and GPS systems and iPads. They would view us as sorcerers, wizards. How would we today view someone from 2100? We would view them as the gods of mythology.

About Michio Kaku Dr. Michio Kaku is a theoretical physicist, best-selling author, and popularizer of science. He’s the co-founder of string field theory (a branch of string theory), and continues Einstein’s search to unite the four fundamental forces of nature into one unified theory. He has appeared on television (Discovery, BBC, ABC, Science Channel, and CNN to name a few), written for popular science publications like Discover, Wired, and New Scientist, been featured in documentaries like Me & Isaac Newton, and hosted many of his own including BBC’s recent series on Time. He received a B.S. (summa cum laude) from Harvard University in 1968 where he came first in his physics class. He went on to the Berkeley Radiation Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley and received a Ph.D. in 1972. In 1973, he held a lectureship at Princeton University. Michio continues Einstein’s search for a “Theory of Everything,” seeking to unify the four fundamental forces of the universe—the strong force, the weak force, gravity and electromagnetism. He is the author of several scholarly, Ph.D. level textbooks and has had more than 70 articles published in physics journals, covering topics such as superstring theory, supergravity, supersymmetry, and hadronic physics. He holds the Henry Semat Chair and Professorship in theoretical physics at the City College of New York, where he has taught for over 25 years. He has also been a visiting professor at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, as well as New York University (NYU).
